About me

Two years after college I had a one man show with 14 paintings in New York City at the 55 Mercer Gallery in Soho. It was well received in Art News with a decent review by Peter Frank. I was somewhat upset that another artist in a different gallery showing just a television set with Christmas tree lights got a larger review. Anyway full of piss and moan I left for greener pastures and new experiences. To make ends meet I got a job as an oil and gas land map drafter in Midland Texas and later on I sold ad space for a small publication in Boulder Colorado. Living in these parts led me to realism as a means to get by. In Texas I sold a painting of an oil rig to a gallery and in Boulder I did sketch portraits on the Pearl Street mall. Eventually my cousin who lives in France invited me for a stay. I was a street painter in Lyon and then in Poitiers making paintings surrounding avenues while strollers walked by. I went to Switzerland from France  so I could leave the country and re-enter with a renewed visa and took some artwork along with me. I was able to sell a drawing to a gallery in Geneva. Finally I returned to the US and landed in Vermont where my middle brother lives. Since my return to the states in 2004 I've been making art full time.

ARTWORKS

 I've always believed that art should be able stand on its own. I do not have a complex system of philosophical or mathematical theories suitable for art criticism. The stuff you  find in Artforum quoting Wittegenstein or somebody gives me a headache. I'll leave the theories up to the critics.

I have upwards of thirty abstract sculptures and even more abstract wood wall pieces. Also there are my abstract paintings on canvas. The very large ones from my show in New York are no longer available. Also I have a number of local street paintings done in France and the US plus never before shown are my scribbly faces of which there must be at least 60.

  • 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 ft. Wood , paint and sawdust on canvas.

  • This was on the poster for the Dianich Gallery show.
